10 Upcoming Film Remakes
The Poltergeist reboot hits our cinema screens this month, and it's not alone. 2015 is the year of the film remake, and there are plenty in the works. Here are 10 upcoming film remakes that'll make you say: No! Yes! Really? Why?? WTF?!
Ghostbusters
An all-girl crew (Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon) fire up the proton packs in the reboot. Can it even exist without the comedy genius of Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd? It looks like anyone expecting to see Mr Stay Puft return to terrorise New York will be disappointed. The latest spoilers point towards Peter Dinklage as a 'creepy mechanical genius'.
Who will get slimed? Will they cross the streams?
Point Break
Scheduled for a Christmas 2015 release, the reboot of the 1991 Swayze and Reeves surfing flick will star Edgar Ramirez as Bodhi, Luke Bracey as Johnny Utah, Teresa Palmer as the love interest, and - wait for it - Ray Winstone. Ramirez was in The Hurt Locker, directed by Kathryn Bigelow, who did the original Point Break.
Flash Gordon
The camp classic was released in 1980 and is rumoured to be in line for the remake treatment very soon. Probably thanks to the success of the film Ted. According to Screenrant, it's being financially backed by 20th Century Fox.
Whether or not Brian Blessed will don his pants and wings and reprise his role as the king of the hawk men has yet to be confirmed. Surely you can't have this movie without Blessed roaring: 'Gordon's ALIVE?!!'
Gremlins
The critters with an appetite for destruction originally hit cinema screens back in good old 1984. Steven Speilberg is re-working the original story for a modern audience but surely the old 'don't feed them after midnight' rule will remain?
War Games
Nooooooo! Yes. It's happening. Deal with it. Anyone who has fond memories of watching this every Christmas since its release in 1983 will no doubt think the very idea of a remake is a travesty. Which brings us nicely to the next title on this list of upcoming film remakes.
Flight of the Navigator
The 1986 Disney film starred a bouncy Sarah Jessica Parker, before she got all fashionista and did Sex and the City. A reboot has been in the works for years but whether it'll actually fly remains to be seen.
The Transporter Refuelled
Jason Statham must think they're 'avin a bubble. Ed Skrein plays Frank Martin, and Luc Besson directs. On the up side, you're pretty much guaranteed some excellent driving and ridiculous fight scenes. According to Den of Geek, it's now slated for a September 2015 release.
Cliffhanger
The 1993 Stallone blockbuster film is getting the remake treatment. Rumour has it that Fast & Furious producer Neil Moritz is on working on the project. Will probably make you want to go out and do something bonkers, like cliff jumpingor gorge scrambling. Not that movies influence behaviour. Nope, not at all.
Bill & Ted
Whether this is going to be a remake or an original third film is still yet to be confirmed for sure. The idea's been kicking around for years but whether it'll get off the ground depends on funding. Keanu Reeves recently told The Independent: 'There's a script but we're trying to get money together to get the rights from MGM to let us make it, so it's in the business part of showbusiness. Right now it's in a place where it needs the dough to take the next step.'
Friday the 13th
Jason Voorhees is back. Again. No, really. He must need a new hockey mask by now. The release date has been pushed back a year to 2016, which makes the whole thing look deeply suspicious.
