The Stagcom 21st November Round Up
As the calendar year draws to a close, the sport just seems to get better and better. With the weather now taking a turn for the worse, it becomes more appealing to stay indoors all day and watch what's on.
This weekend was no different; but if you were forced out for a cold walk or Christmas shopping, allow us to take you through everything that happened.
Chelsea Move Top
Chelsea moved top of the Premier League yesterday evening after a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough. Diego Costa scored the only goal of the game just before half-time to give Chelsea their sixth consecutive league win.
Antonio Conte's side have also failed to concede a goal in the six-match winning run. They now face Spurs and Man City in their next two matches; positive results in those two games and Chelsea's title credentials will look strong.
Liverpool drop to second after a 0-0 draw at Southampton. A draw isn't the worst result but Jurgen Klopp will be disappointed his side didn't take all three points after Roberto Firmino wasted a great chance towards the end.
Man City moved level on points with Liverpool after a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Yaya Toure was brought in for his first Premier League appearance of the season and responded by scoring both of City's goals!
Arsenal complete the top-four after salvaging a last-gasp draw at Old Trafford. United lead through Juan Mata's cool finish, but Olivier Giroud came off the bench to rescue a point.
World Number One
Andy Murray beat Novak Djokovic to win his first ATP World Tour Finals title and end 2016 as the world number one. The fight for the number one crown all came down to this match and Murray was able to win the eagerly anticipated final in straight sets 6-3 6-4.
The win also sees Murray extend his career-best winning run to 24 matches, as well as ending Djokovic's four-year run of success at the tournament.
The win and world number one spot caps a stellar year for Murray; after winning both Wimbledon and Olympic Gold in 2016.
England Destroyed
In the early hours of this morning England were bowled out for 158 in their second innings by India in the second Test to give the hosts a resounding 246-run win.
England started the day on 87-2 with a target of 405 to win. That was never a realistic target to chase down and the plan was to bat for the whole day to claim a draw. But with large cracks on the five-day old pitch, India's spin bowlers ran riot and England lost eight wickets for 66 runs.
India now take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series; the third Test begins on Saturday in Mohali.
Nine of the Best
England scored nine tries on their way to a 58-15 win over Fiji at Twickenham on Saturday and stretch their winning run to 12 matches.
First-half tries from Jonathan Joseph, Elliot Daly, Semesa Rokoduguni, Teimana Harrison and Joe Launchbury gave England a commanding lead. Launchbury added two more scores in the second-half along with Joseph, Rokoduguni and Alex Goode going over.
Next up for Eddie Jones' side is a visit from Argentina on Saturday; who narrowly lost to a last minute penalty against Scotland at the weekend.
