The Stagcom 22nd August Round Up
How is it Monday already? Another weekend has flown by with almost too much sporting action to keep on top of!
The Olympic Games has now drawn to a close, but at least we now don't have to stop until the early hours and watch obscure sports! Let us run through all of the action for you.
GREAT Britain
The 2016 Rio Olympic Games came to a close last night, and there was much to celebrate from a British perspective! Great Britain finished in second place in the medal table ahead of sporting powerhouse, China - it is Great Britain's most successful 'away' Games of all time.
The pre-Games target was to reach 48 medals, but Team GB smashed that as they brought home 67 medals - including 27 gold medals. It is the first time in Olympic history that a nation who hosted the previous Games has surpassed their medals haul at the following one.
We don't have enough space to mention all our Olympic heroes, but there were some notable ones to mention. Jason Kenny was the most successful Briton at the Games, winning three gold medals in cycling and Mo Farah successfully defended both the 5,000m and 10,000m to add two gold medals for Team GB.
We now have to wait another four years for the next Olympics in Tokyo. Bring it on!
Manchester set the pace
The second round of Premier League fixtures took place over the weekend, and it is the two Manchester clubs who are setting the pace along with Chelsea and Hull City.
United made it two wins from two with a 2-0 win over Southampton on Friday night. Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored both goals in the game; world record signing Paul Pogba also made his debut for the Red Devils.
City won for the second time as they thumped Stoke 4-1 at the Bet 365 Stadium. Sergio Aguero continued his scintillating form with a brace, and new signing Nolito grabbed two late goals to add the gloss on another fine performance from Pep Guardiola's side.
Chelsea, as they did in their opening game, needed a late winner from Diego Costa to see off Watford at Vicarage Road. That means Antonio Conte has began life as Chelsea boss with two wins, although both victories have been unconvincing so far.
The only other side with a 100% record in the Premier League so far are Hull! The newly promoted side were made favourites for the drop before a ball was kicked, but defied the odds again to beat Swansea 2-0. Shaun Maloney and Abel Hernandez scored the goals late on to give the Tigers victory.
Early days, but it already looks set to be another fascinating Premier League season!
Murray's run comes to an end
Andy Murray's career best winning run of 22-matches came to an end in the Cincinnati Masters final as he lost in straight sets to Marin Cilic.
Regardless of the result, it was an impressive week from Murray who flew directly to the US from Rio after retaining his Olympic gold medal.
The Scot is still in great form as he prepares for the US Open which starts next week in New York!
