The Stagcom 30th August Round Up

Another bank holiday weekend is over and no-one knows whether it's Monday or Tuesday. The extra day over the weekend means that there's been plenty going on.

You may have been busy over the weekend, so allow us to take you through all the action from the August bank holiday weekend.

100% Starts Continue

Three of the four 100% starts continued over the weekend in the Premier League as the early season table begins to take shape. Chelsea were the first side to make it three out of three with a comfortable 3-0 win over Burnley. Eden Hazard opened the scoring with a superb individual goal; further goals from Willian and Victor Moses maintained Antonio Conte's perfect start.

Manchester United made much harder work of victory over Hull in the Saturday evening game. The game looked to be heading for a draw until Marcus Rashford broke the deadlock at the death, following a run and low cross from England captain Wayne Rooney.

The blue half of Manchester continued their perfect start to the season with a 3-1 win over West Ham on Sunday. The rejuvenated Raheem Sterling grabbed a brace and Fernandinho scored his first of the campaign. The two Manchester clubs meet each other next after the international break, which should be a great game!

England Win Again

England produced another solid performance on their way to beating Pakistan at Lord's in the second ODI to take a 2-0 series lead.

The hosts had a fantastic start to the match; early wickets from Mark Wood and Chris Woakes had Pakistan at the 2-3 and on the ropes! The tourists did recover, largely thanks to Sarfraz Ahmed who scored a super 105 and finished their innings on 251 all out with a ball to spare.

England's innings looked like it may falter early on after Jason Roy and Alex Hales lost their wickets cheaply, but Captain Eoin Morgan and Joe Root steadied the ship to take the game away from Pakistan with a 112 partnership. Ben Stokes smashed a quick fire 42 from 30 balls and it was left to Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes to finish the job off with 15 balls to spare.

The third ODI takes place at Trent Bridge today!

Rosberg Takes Belgian Grand Prix

Nico Rosberg won the Belgian GP to reduce Lewis Hamilton's lead at the top of the standings, yet it was still his Mercedes teammate who received the majority of the plaudits for his performance.

Hamilton started in 21st position on the grid after engine penalties over the weekend, but the British driver produced a remarkable race to climb to third place and ensure that there was minimal damage to his lead at the top of the standings!

Strong Weekend for Brits in America

The US Open started well for some of the British contingent at Flushing Meadows, New York. World number 84 Kyle Edmund produced the shock of the opening day, beating 13th seed Richard Gasquet in straight sets.

In the women's draw, British number one Johanna Konta powered past American Bethanie Mattek-Sands in straight sets to set up a second round match against Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova. Andy Murray gets his US Open tournament under way against Lukas Rosol in the early hours of tomorrow morning.
