Two engines. Two drivers. No steering wheel. Lads, if you're looking for a stag weekend driving activity that takes adrenaline rushes to the next level, this is it!
Welcome to the mad, bad world of Powerturns. These absolutely insane pieces of driving engineering are probably the greatest things we've ever seen. They're basically a cross between a dragster and a super-agile off road buggy, and like we said: they don't have steering wheels. Or brakes. Or pedals. In fact, the only way you can control one of these bad boys is with a throttle lever! Strap in at our driving centre (it's just down the road from Derby), and prepare to be thrilled.
Each driver takes control of one back wheel, which is powered by its own engine. Open the throttle away from you to get the wheel revving in a forwards direction, pull back to get it revving in reverse. It's as simple as that.
The tricky bit comes in when you realise your fellow driver is also controlling a wheel! You'll have to work together in perfect synchronisation, if you're going to get the Powerturn to travel in a straight line. Or you could go for the tightest, fastest turn in history by throwing one lever into full forwards, and the other into full reverse! Do that, and your Powerturn will spin on its axis at crazy speeds. Oh - and if you both accelerate in the same direction as fast as you can, you'll do the mother of all wheelies.
Derby's a lovely little city, nestling in beautiful countryside. But forget about that for a couple of hours. You're not here to look at the trees. You're here to feel the G force.
In a nutshell:
- Safety equipment, instruction and safety briefing
- Wear clothes and shoes you can get wet and dirty
